Friday, July 3
- Boyne City 4th of July Festival kicks off with a little something for everyone in the family. Weekend festivities include an arts & crafts show, 10k race, live music, and much more.
- The Inn at Bay Harbor hosts the Petoskey High School Steel Drum Band for a performance on The Inn’s lakeside lawn at 5pm. The very popular band has played at such venues as Epcot Center at Walt Disney World, FL, National Cherry Festival, MI and at Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, LA.
- The Village at Bay Harbor presents a spectacular fireworks display starting at dusk and a laser light show is being incorporated into this year’s fireworks display. This is a huge bonus to the weekend’s activities!
Saturday, July 4
- Annual Bay Harbor 4th of July Parade starts at 11am and includes dozens of Global Electric Motorcars (GEMs), each decorated by their owners in the holiday’s patriotic spirit. GEMs, horses, music and treats galore make this one-of-a-kind parade an event for the whole family to enjoy.
- Boyne City 4th of July Festival continues with events and activities throughout the day and night including a parade, raft and soap box derby races, concessions, live music and more. To top it off, the spectacular fireworks display over Lake Charlevoix.
- The Harbor Springs 4th of July Celebration is an all American town holiday like no other! Paul Revere 10-mile and 3-mile runs are scheduled plus the parade is a true ‘don’t miss’ for summer visitors and year-round residents alike. The fireworks display over the bay is something fabulous.
- Petoskey’s 4th of July Celebration takes place from dusk to dark on the downtown waterfront. Join the fun and enjoy a parade, live entertainment, and a vintage baseball exhibition. Then take in one of the area’s famous ‘Million Dollar Sunsets’ before the fireworks begin around 10:30pm.
The weekend also features concerts and movies in the park, an art fair, car show, even an antiques show. Read more about these and other area events here.
In addition to the area’s events, great food and entertainment is offered at BOYNE’s resorts including the ever-popular Friday Night Fish Fry plus a terrific prime rib dinner special on Saturday at Boyne Highlands. Live music at Boyne Mountain’s Beach House and Tiki Bar on Deer Lake Beach is scheduled and you’re invited to get your fill at The Inn at Bay Harbor’s Fourth of July Weekend buffets.

The 28th annual season of the Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park series will brighten our Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the summer of 2009. Downtown employees, residents, and visitors can grab their friends, their lunches, and their dancing shoes and join us for a great afternoon or evening concert.
Old favorites such as The New Epsilon Jass Band, Jelly Rolls Blues Band, and Sean Ryan anchored the schedule and many more favorites and newcomers rounded out the schedule. We hope to welcome back some of these performers and mix in a few new friends in the 2009 season.
And remember, we don’t have rain delays, we just move the whole concert up to the Petoskey Presbyterian Church on the corner of E Mitchell St and Division St (across from the Crooked Tree Arts Center).

The Boyne Mountain Tennis Academy is a junior developmental program. The Academy offers a fantastic opportunity for competitive juniors, high school and soon to high school players, the opportunity to learn from USPTA Certified Tennis Director and Head Coach, Larry Stark. He currently serves as the West Bloomfield High School, Division 1 Varsity Boys Tennis Coach. Stark is also a tenured physical education and health teacher. His resume highlights such achievements as Michigan State University Varsity Tennis #1 singles and doubles as well as National USTA rankings both as a junior and as an adult.
Adults who are strong of heart, 3.5 level players or above, that want to move up a level or two and are willing to work hard can enroll in the Boyne Mountain Tennis Academy.

Boyne Mountain’s Tennis Center features 11 Laykold courts located just a short walk from the Mountain Villas, Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa and Disciples Village condominiums. Racquets are available for rental at Boyne Country Sports for $2 and includes use of three tennis balls.
Two additional Laykold courts are available at Boyne Mountain’s Deer Lake Villas and beach area. These courts are conveniently located next to the resort’s Beach House restaurant and golf courses.
Tennis enthusiasts can shop Boyne Country Sports‘ offerings for the latest in tennis fashion, footwear, and equipment. Stores located at Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands as well as in Petoskey, Traverse City, Novi and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Many Trout Creek staff members have been out hunting for the elusive delicacy of Morel Mushrooms and have reported that it is a good year so far. We have found many of the white & black Morels! The season will continue for a bit so come on up to Trout Creek and give it a go.

New Meadows Chairlift at Boyne Mountain

This season (08/09) Boyne Mountain is replacing the Meadows Chairlift with a higher speed, fixed grip, conveyor load lift. This lift not only travels faster than the original, it’s easier to load thanks to a conveyor belt system giving riders a seamless transition from snow to seat. The new lift also extends further down the slope allowing speedy and more convenient access from the day visitor parking lots. (Click on photos to enlarge.)

What’s New at Boyne Highlands for 08/09!

Boyne Highlands
- Lighting of over two miles of cross country trails; lights on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays.
91 additional Boyne Low E Fan Guns. These snow guns will make more snow as well as a higher quality snow with less moisture content, all this while using less energy. Let’s not forget BOYNE started the whole snowmaking thing many years ago and truly this is the next step in the evolution of snowmaking.- Expansion of night skiing/riding terrain to include Kath’s Run and Leprechaun.
- Bonfire and complimentary hot cocoa along the snowshoe trail on Saturdays.
- Offering Aonach Mor Rustic Moonlight Dinner on Friday nights in addition to the Saturday offerings. If you haven’t experienced this popular dining option, it’s a must.
